1Hive is a global community building public goods and shared infrastructure for humanity.

The community coordinates across several spaces. Each has a different purpose. Use the one that matches what you are trying to do.

Discord: real-time coordination

Discord is where day-to-day coordination happens.

Use it to:

  • introduce yourself,
  • ask where a contribution might fit,
  • follow active workstreams,
  • coordinate with contributors,
  • get help using 1Hive infrastructure,
  • discuss proposals before they become formal.

Discord is best for live conversation and quick context. Important decisions should still become legible in longer-lived places like the Forum or governance interfaces.

Forum: proposals and durable discussion

The 1Hive Forum is where longer-form discussion belongs.

Use it for:

  • proposal drafts,
  • funding requests,
  • governance changes,
  • project updates,
  • budget discussion,
  • postmortems and public reasoning.

If you want Honey from a shared pool, or if your work affects the direction of the DAO, make the case publicly. The Forum helps the community inspect assumptions, risks, and expected outcomes before resources move.

GitHub: code and documentation

The 1Hive GitHub organization hosts open-source code, documentation, and project repositories.

Use it to:

  • review code,
  • open issues,
  • improve documentation,
  • track technical work,
  • contribute to public infrastructure.

GitHub is best for work that should be maintained, reviewed, and reused.

Governance interfaces: shared resource allocation

Honey is governed by the community. Governance tools are how 1Hive allocates shared resources, signals support, and manages disputes.

Key systems include:

  • Gardens v1, used for Common Pool proposals and major Honey governance activity.
  • Gardens v2, used for modular signaling and funding experiments.
  • Celeste, used for dispute resolution and proposal rule enforcement.

You do not need to understand every system before participating, but you should learn the relevant process before submitting or challenging proposals.

How to enter well

1Hive is ambitious. It is also practical. The best way to enter is to connect your interest to a concrete contribution.

Good first steps:

  • read Our mission and values,
  • understand Why Honey?,
  • review recent proposals,
  • join Discord and say what you are interested in,
  • ask where help is needed,
  • start with a contribution small enough to finish.

The aim is not to “join a server.” The aim is to help build a DAO that can fund public goods and shared infrastructure at global scale.
